Religion can sometimes be a tricky subject. Some people get uncomfortable talking about it. Some people go door to door sharing their religion. Some people pretend it doesn’t exist. Some people like to try all different religions.
When it comes to religion for me, I know where I stand. I never went door to door sharing what I know, and I try not to make people feel uncomfortable, but I do like to share my beliefs when I get the chance. I love volunteering at my church to teach the young kids. I also like to hear what other people believe. I think sharing your thoughts, whatever they may be, can be a great thing. So today I wanted to share a little bit more about myself and the religion that I practice. After all, homesteading, gardening, raising kids, and believing in God all go hand in hand to me. It’s just part of our life here at the Real Farmhouse.
I like to consider myself a fairly normal person. Although the older I get, the more crazy I feel so I am starting to wonder a little ….
I do have a few odd things I guess, like that I would rather dig in the dirt than take a shower, I chose to get married at 18, I don’t know what a twitter page looks like, and I have four kids and Farmer and I want more.
But put those things aside, and I am a pretty normal Farmer’s Wife! I stay at home with the kids, occasionally I play in the mud with them. I like to cook, and garden, and hang out with friends. I work on the farm when they need extra help. I have an IPhone, a car, Nike shoes, and a few other things everyone in America has to have to survive right? And I love pizza, and ice cream, and Mtn Dew.
I also DON’T have a few things …. I don’t have horns, that I know of. I don’t share my husband with multiple wives. And I don’t hate people who aren’t members of my faith.
I love the outdoors and I love my family. My dad is a writer who travels a lot with my mom. I have a sister who writes also and is an excellent fitness instructor. Another sister who is a nurse. A brother who is a wanderer and writes about it. And then there is me, the Farmer’s Wife and Mommy to four beautiful little dirty kiddos.
So you tell me …. Am I normal? Well, I feel normal.
I’m a dirt lover. I’m a starter of projects. I’m a homeschooling mamma. I’m a farmer’s wife. And, I’m a Mormon!

I’m an Episcopalian, which suits me well. Was raised partly in that church and then quite recently came back to it. I have a lot of Mormon relatives on one side of my family and the preparedness aspect of their lives rubbed off on me.
Farmer's Wife says
I agree with the being prepared aspect for sure. It sure makes for a better nights sleep!

I’m a Christian and Brown thumb Gardner naturally…the only reason stuff grows is because God and my husband tag team on watering. As a stay at home mama, what I bring in for an income is very minimal, but gardening and canning have helped me control how much money goes out each month.

Sometimes I feel just the same Ali, thanks for commenting

I am Catholic…from many generations of practicing Catholics. Some of our best friends are Mormon….from many generations of practicing Mormons. We home schooled together while raising our children….they had seven and we had six. We greatly respect each others religion. One of the loveliest services I have attended was the baptism of their daughter and the nicest dressed young men at my sons confirmation was their sons. While I believe in and love my church, I think that God reads HEARTS instead of religious affiliations.

I have many Catholic friends as well and some within my family. I really enjoy that many of our values are the same. I love that last sentence that God reads HEARTS. very well put!

I’m agnostic, I suppose? I’m married to a lapsed Mormon, which was sort of my fault. I tried it after we first got married, but after an hour I was ready to go hide somewhere. They were nice, but I get my fill of socializing saying hello to the mailman. I prefer my plants, and critters, and books- they don’t care if I’m barefoot and still in my pajamas.

You sound just like a friend of mine 🙂 Barefoot and pajamas is great! best wishes

Greetings Farm Wife,
Good to see you writing again! I was raised Roman Catholic, but in adulthood I found a better fit with the Quakers. We believe each person has God within them. It is not enough to hear of Christ, or read of Christ, we strive to release His spirit within us and mirror his work. I guess Christ’s presence within us is best described as an inner light guiding us. We are pacifists and yes, anti war. We have monthly meetings, not services, where we discuss our works of the month prior and month to come. May each day bring us closer to the spirit of human understanding, closer to the blessings of peace….
Love to all,
Linda

Thank you for that wonderful comment Linda. I didn’t know anything about the Quakers and it’s great to hear about others beliefs!

I was an exchange student in Arizona back in the early 80s. I made a dear friend Jeff who was Mormon. He introduced me to his faith and answered my many questions. I was fascinated with the preparation aspect. Today I am back home in the Caibbean. Jeff is a father and grandfather to a big family, devoted and caring. He is the best example of a Mormon that I know and I will always respect your religion. I am a Member of the Church of God here in Barbados. My relationship with God is the centre of my life. I love to garden and plan to develop my skills even more.
Farmer's Wife says
Wow, thanks so much for that Kim! I wish you the best of luck with your garden and your faith. Sending love your way.

Hello from a fellow Mormon! Love your blog. Love your openness about your religion but how you don’t try to force it onto others. Love that you welcome others’ beliefs as well!
Farmer's Wife says
Hi Camilla! Thanks so much for your sweet comment.

I was brought up Missouri Synod Lutheran now I am a Free Methodist. I belong to a bible study group not affiliated with my church and value greatly a few traditions of your religion. Food storage & preparation for the future . Not wasting and stewarding all of your assets material or not. I also agree if you don’t study your history you are bound to repeat it. As far as problems with people & or religious beliefs if you dig deep or far enough you’ll find them in any group. Thanks for your blog .
Farmer's Wife says
Thanks Gaeyl!
